Faces of Destro

Another part of the group I did for SCG Seattle, which I promise I will describe at some point when I get the time. So many wonderful people, so many great commissions (which are, rightly so, keeping me from being more active online at the moment). I've had a longstanding crush on Destro from GI Joe, and had the idea to immortalize all the faces you'd see from him in a domestic situation that none of us ever got to see during the cartoon/comic, as elegantly stoic as he always was. Baroness probably got to know these expressions, and now you can, too! And knowing is half the battle.

Death Becomes Her

Did this Lady Death as stock for SCG Seattle. A personal fave, haven't decided yet what means I'm going to use to sell her, if I do...

P.S. the art was inspired by the poster below, which was done by the creator of Lady Death's signature look, Steven Hughes.

Elesh Nurn in da house

These are what I wrapped up yesterday for big boss Trick Jarrett himself. While I definitely feel the Mayaels from day before yesterday are more my thing and that's going to become my signature "look" and style for cards, I was very happy with how these turned out. I did find it difficult to replicate some of the very small symbols as at one point a couple hours in, my hand started shaking and wouldn't quit. I used a ruler and measured out the spacing for clusters of symbols, but it was STILL ridiculous to write that small and accurately. If you ever try one of these, just know it's harder than you might think to get perfectly straight lines and to actually get things the way you want them with text this tiny. I don't think I'll do one of these again as it's not what I want to specialize in, but if you are going to do one I recommend you get the absolute finest pen you can find (go buy a new one if necessary), use a magnifying glass and maybe borrow the drafting tools of an architect friend or something lol. Or maybe WotC can just print some Phyrexian cards! Whew, that'd save us all some muscle spasms and neck cramps. :)

Mayael the Animated, Finale!

I was so lucky to have such a great client for these commissions. Owner: Chris Kuzmin, Texas.

Master's Call

As many of you know I ditched my day job recently. Well, actually I put in my notice just a couple days ago, but prepped to leave the job for the last three weeks. Mentally checked out. That was me. Anyway, the day I turned in my official resignation, the hubby bought a Shards foil pack on a whim, and guess who was inside? Yeah. I took it as nothing less than a totally great omen, and indication that the Elder Dragon himself condones my jump to a pirate-like existence. The extra-creepy about this Bolas appearance was it was the same day my "'Walker All-Male Revue" article posted to Gathering Magic, in which, of course, the Master won the 2011 Hottest Male Planeswalker title. Hmmmm. Coincidence? Nah, couldn't bOLAS...

Mayael, the Animated

I love Mayael and was ecstatic to recently be contacted for commissions by fellow Mayael fan @ckuzmin. This is a big project but definitely worth the effort. Below are the two sketches I did to give my client options for his full original-art alter. There's a second part to this project that involves the Mayael's Aria art AND the Vanguard Mayael avatar! Stay tuned for updates. :)

Sleepless for SCG Seattle!

Newsflash: A late development has me getting a booth at the upcoming StarCityGames Open: Seattle event.

I'm hoping to meet a lot of Pacific Northwest-area MTGers and sell a few alters! If you're around, definitely stop by and say hey and grab some Moxy swag.

I'm really excited, but now there's just a ton to do...it's going to be a challenging next few weeks!
